When a customer pays, Dintero creates an authorization that reserves the amount at their bank. You must capture the payment before the authorization expires, or the customer will need to pay again.
Quick reference
| Payment method | Authorization window |
|---|
| Klarna | 28 days (auto-extended to 6 months) |
| Walley | 90 days |
| Card | ~7 days (up to 30+ days depending on bank) |
| Vipps (Visa) | 7 days |
| Vipps (Visa Electron) | 5 days |
| Vipps (Mastercard) | 30 days |
| Swish | No authorization — captured immediately |
If an authorization expires before you capture, the customer must pay again. Use a payment link to recover the order.
Klarna
You have 28 days to capture. Dintero automatically extends the authorization after 23 days, up to a maximum of 6 months, so orders do not expire without warning.
Auto-extension does not apply when the customer selects Pay by card within Klarna checkout.
Klarna sends email notifications before each authorization period expires.
The customer’s invoice is only generated when you capture — not at authorization. For installment orders, the full authorized amount shows as Klarna debt until you capture or cancel.
For partial captures, the remaining authorized amount receives a fresh 28-day window. You can extend it manually before expiry, up to 6 months in total.
Walley
You have 90 days to capture Walley transactions (invoice and installments). The customer’s invoice is generated when you capture.
Card payments
Card authorizations are typically valid for around 7 days, but this varies by the customer’s bank. Most cards allow captures beyond 30 days as long as the card remains valid and funded.
Vipps
The authorization window depends on the card type linked to the customer’s Vipps account:
| Card type | Authorization valid for |
|---|
| Visa | 7 days |
| Visa Electron | 5 days |
| Mastercard | 30 days |
The customer’s bank may release the reservation earlier than these limits. Capture is guaranteed within these windows if funds are available.
Swish
Swish skips the authorization stage entirely. Approved payments go directly to Captured, so there is no authorization window to manage.
