Payment failures can happen for several reasons. Understanding the cause helps you resolve the issue or guide customers through it.

Common causes

Verification not completed Customers must complete a security step like BankID or 3D Secure. Skipping or failing that step declines the payment. Card issues An expired card, insufficient funds, or a block placed by the customer’s bank prevents the transaction. Unsupported card type Dintero supports most Visa and Mastercard products, but some international or business cards may be rejected. Browser closed too early Closing the browser before the redirect back to the store completes, which is common with Vipps or Swish, can prevent order confirmation even if the payment itself succeeded. Temporary provider outage Payment providers occasionally experience short outages. These typically resolve automatically. Multiple checkout tabs Opening checkout in multiple browser tabs at the same time can disrupt payment processing.

Payment method-specific issues

Digital wallets

Apple Pay, Google Pay, Vipps, Swish, and MobilePay can fail due to:
  • An expired card linked to the wallet
  • A temporary outage at the provider
  • An incorrect phone number linked to the wallet account

Buy now, pay later

Klarna, Billie, and Walley may decline payments if:
  • The customer does not pass the provider’s credit check
  • Your merchant agreement with the provider is inactive

What to do if you’re unsure

Note the error message, payment method used, and the transaction or session ID. Contact Dintero support with these details so they can diagnose the failure.
